About David A. Thorpe, DC, DACBOH
Since completing his undergraduate education at Syracuse University and his professional education at the Los Angeles college of Chiropractic, Dr. Thorpe has been a practicing Chiropractor since 1980. Additionally, he has completed the postgraduate Diplomate program in Occupational Health and Applied Ergonomics at Northwestern Health Sciences University. As an expert in his field, Dr. Thorpe is currently on the postgraduate faculty at Northwestern Health Sciences University and New York Chiropractic College.
Along with private practice, Dr. Thorpe has been actively involved in Occupational Health and Ergonomics in New York State. He is founder, president and CEO of WorkRite Safety, PLLC, an occupational consulting company whose focus is on the prevention and management of work-related injuries and compliance issues. The company and its predecessors have provided and continue to provide occupational services, including DOT physicals and drug and alcohol testing, for greater than 200 client companies for more than 20 years.
Dr. Thorpe has received local and national recognition for his contributions to occupational health and ergonomics and has had numerous articles published in magazines and journals. He is a well sought after speaker and has lectured on many health related topics at such places as Upstate (NY) Medical University, the Plenary Session of the Florida Chiropractic Association annual convention, the annual New York State Chiropractic Association convention, the Student ACA meeting at the NCLC, and at organizations such as The Society for Safety Engineers, The National Safety Council, The New York State Occupational Health Nurses Association and many others.
Active politically, Dr. Thorpe has served in many offices for the New York State Chiropractic Association, as well as on the executive committees of the ACA Council on Occupational Health, The American Board of Chiropractic Specialties, and is the current State representative of the International Academy of Chiropractic Occupational Health Consultants. While President of the Council on Occupational Health, he worked not only with the FMCSA in the development of the NRCME guidelines but also initiated discussions with OSHA to establish a strategic alliance with the ACA.
In addition to authoring, "The DC and the DOT: A Clinical Reference Manual and Business Guide", he has authored a number of other training manuals/programs for Chiropractors, businesses, and workers themselves. These include, "Ergotrain", "Supertrain", "Safeback", "Fitback", "StretchRite", and many others.
Dr. Thorpe is as passionate about Syracuse University Football and Basketball and his family, as he is about Occupational Health. He currently resides in Syracuse, NY, with his wife, four adult aged children, and his beloved Pomeranian, Lola.
